Another day, and there’s another drama at the Bronx! This time, it’s the Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone, who is one of the latest names in the MLB to fetch an amount closer to what a good manager deserves. As pointed out by MLB insider Alonso Sarinana, he seems quite surprised that the Yankees signed Boone for a mere two-year contract, which doesn’t seem justified.
Aaron Boone has led the New York Yankees to the postseason every time, missing just one year—2023. However, Boone’s managerial skills cannot be ignored, as he helped the team to win 94 games with 68 losses, which fetched Boone a .580 win-loss percentage. Thus, his managerial stint with the club has been quite good; Boone’s tenure with the Yankees has been extended by two years, which will take him through the 2027 season. While Boone enters his eighth season with the Bronx Bombers, on February 21, NMLB insider Alonso Sarinana shared his insight on Boone’s pay and daily challenges.
Sarinana cited, “I mean, Dave Roberts is gonna set kind of the market with some of that, but granted, he’s also an outlier because of what he has to deal with. Him and Aaron Boone really are the only two guys that have to deal with what they have to deal with, day in, day out. And, for me, I was a little surprised that it was only two years with Aaron Boone; I think it’s until 2027 that I was a little surprised by. But then again, nothing really surprises me with this current iteration of the Yankees.”

Sarinana mentioned that it’s quite surprising that the Yankees signed Aaron Boone for an extension of two years only, while on the other hand, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to extend Dave Roberts’ contract by three to five years. He even believes that it will be more than Craig Counsell’s five-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, which is worth more than $40 million. Sarinana even cited that they all have been paid like middle relievers, so it’s justified for Boone to get paid like that, but maybe he deserves more than that. However, Boone has been criticized for following every order coming from the team’s front office.
Aaron Boone called a mere puppet of the Yankees’ front office
Right after the extension of Aaron Boone’s contract, the problems seem not to end for him. Although Boone had a great stint with the Yankees in his seven seasons, he had been criticized for going with the game plan that the front office proposed to him. In case he goes with his own plan and that doesn’t work, Boone needs to face the consequences and even give a reply on what went wrong according to his plan. But that’s not all!

Aaron Boone, though, mentioned that it’s not just what people think, as the front office is like a buffet table, where he and the pitching staff are presented with options. And from these options, they need to choose the ones that could be suitable for the team. Despite his praise for the front office in helping them with the desired tools and support, Boone never seemed to deviate from what the front office said, and that’s the reason he is on the radar.
