The New York Yankees have only won 1 World Series title after the 2000 MLB season. That came in 2009 when Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez helped lead the Bronx Bombers to the title. Most recently, Rodriguez revealed why the Yankees have not won many titles in the recent past. During an appearance on The Michael Kay Show, a podcast, A-Rod said that the Yanks try to outsmart their opponents. He further said that the team and its top brass need to invest more resources to win.

While on the Michael Kay Show, Rodriguez said, “The reason why I think they’ve only won one championship in the last 24 years, is because they’re trying to win by being smarter than you. The Yankees have 27 championships by just being better, by drafting great people, developing international markets. And you don’t have to outsmart Tampa, cause you’re not Tampa. You’re the great Yankees, use the resources like George Steinbrenner did and how Steinbrenner did in 09 to bring us that title.”
