With the 2023 MLB season just around the corner, this off-season turned out to be a rather action-packed one. Amidst Aaron Judge’s return to the Yankees, and Carlos Correa’s free agency turmoil, MLB franchise New York Mets appeared as one of the biggest spenders in this off-season. The Mets’ billionaire owner Steve Cohen made some big moves to have some of the best players and executives for the upcoming season. One of his recent acquisitions is of the Yankees YES Network’s broadcaster, former world series champ Carlos Beltran.
The nine-time all-star player recently ditched the Yankees to join their cross-town rivals’ front office. After the news of Beltran departing the Yankees for the Mets hit Twitter, baseball fans got into a heated online showdown, sparking a social media storm. And now, former Met Beltran spoke about his new role in the organization and how other teams also approached him with an offer.

Beltran debuted in 1998 for the Kansas City Royals as a ballplayer and has played for six different teams, including the cross-town rivals, New York Mets, and the New York Yankees. In his roles after retirement, he has closely worked with the Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman. And now, with his experience, he would indeed play a crucial role in the Buck Walter-led Mets.
While donning his Mets ball cap, Beltran admitted that many other teams also approached him, offering him a chance to be on the field. But it wasn’t something he was interested in. “There were a lot of teams that wanted to hire me to be on the field, that was something that I wasn’t looking forward. This organization (Mets) is part of who I am as a ballplayer. I went through moments here that made me a better player,” Beltran said.
Carlos Beltrán says other teams reached out to him before taking his job with the Mets:
