Before Aaron Judge hit the Bronx, there was no debate about the greatest offensive slugger in Pinstripes. It was undoubtedly Alex Rodriguez! Despite his steroid scandals, and his beef with Derek Jeter, his 696 career home runs were a testament to his power-hitting ability from the plate. Analogous to that, these 696 home runs and 2,086 RBIs came at a consistent rate, especially from 1998 to 2010, when the superstar slugger managed to hit at least 100 RBIs and 30 homers in every season.
However, in 2009, A-Rod’s already 11-year-long streak was on the brink of breaking after skipper Joe Girardi was preparing to pull him from the game in order to prepare for the upcoming postseason. Ultimately, the three-time AL MVP managed to find his way to the box and continued his streak to the 12th year in his final two at-bats from the regular season of the Championship-winning year.
If Alex Rodriguez was pulled out of that game, he’d never achieve this great streak…

The slugger-turned-business magnate, with over four million followers on his Instagram, uploaded a video narrating the game where he hit his 100th season home run to continue his streak.
He said, “So this was the craziest night. Last game of 2009. I need seven RBIs and two homers. Now, Joe Girardi had told me, Jeter, and a few other guys, two at-bats, and then you’re going to go get ready for a postseason run. After my second at-bat, Joe says ‘you’re done.’ I started taking off my wristbands, started disconnecting my mind, and all of a sudden, a couple of guys get on looks at me, and he says, ‘Do you want to go?’ I said, ‘Sure, why not?”

After further consulting with skipper Girardi, A-Rod told his teammates that he was done for the game. However, the teammates responded by saying, “‘What do you mean you’re done? Get two or three guys on base. You may have an opportunity for Salami.'”
Finally, A-Rod got his final two at-bats, despite throwing in the towel earlier, and carried his 30 homers and 100 RBI streak for another year.
He continued to narrate, “And sure enough, a couple guys get on. They walk to Teixeira. Teixeira was going for the home run title. So that was a little controversial. On the first or second pitch, I got a fastball. I hit a grand slam, deep to right, center field. That ended the game, with 30 home runs and 100 RBIs. I think that was my 11th or 12th year in a row. And of course, that year ended with a bang… with a 27th World Title. That’s my story!”
