I want to go to teams that know me the best” said Cody Bellinger last year. Scott Boras listened as he further spoke, going into free agency, “..and I want to go where people understand me”. The fact that ‘Belli’ was once with the Los Angeles Dodgers, works well for his free-agency expectations. Moreover, his Instagram has a story to tell.

Before diving into the crucial tidbit that his social media has to reveal, it’s important to keep in mind that as per si.com, the Chicago Cubs continue to be the front runners in the chase for the Scottsdale-born. But that does not mean that an enticing reunion opportunity with LA has dwindled. Thanks to the ‘Cody in Napa’ post that ignited this possibility.

The #24 center fielder, shared a snippet of his vacation with the Blue Crew boys on IG. Cody Bellinger, Will Smith, and Chris Taylor with their wives stood with the picturesque backdrop of the mountains at Napa. An adorable picture that can be framed! Chase Carter, Belli’s partner, captioned the image “Bye bye Napa. Needed it’s own post🫶🏼” This display of bonding at a vacation speaks something about his ongoing free agency.

On one hand, the possibility of the 2X All-Star going back to the Southern California team is exciting. On the other, this would come as a surprise move considering the Dodgers have acquired Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the early phase of the off-season. Considering that Bellinger’s asking price is north of $200 million as per MLB.com will the Dodgers make another expensive move?

Having said that, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com shared that there is “widespread belief within the industry” for Bellinger to re-sign with the Cubs. Though the LA Dodgers are not ruled out, the more plausible option as per reports seems to be the Chicago Cubs. But the condition is, “only if/when his asking price comes down“.

Will The Chicago Cubs Accommodate Bellinger’s Ask?

The Cubs, who have remained quiet until they made the move with Shota Imanaga are a great  fit for Bellinger. The former NL MVP displayed a great bounce back season in 2023. He recorded 26 home runs in addition to .307/.356/.525. Not to mention his 20 steals posting an OPS of .648 from 2020-22. Given that, is his ask for over $200 million too much for the Cubs?
