Carlos Correa has had a rollercoaster ride of a free agency this offseason. Following a great 2022 season with the Minnesota Twins, Correa was set to be one of the biggest free agents. This proved to be true, as Correa agreed to a 13-year $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. But the deal collapsed as the Giants found concerning issues with Correa’s medicals. 

Following this, the New York Mets swooped in and agreed to a 12-year $315 million deal with Correa. But the Mets found similar issues with Correa’s medicals. The two parties tried working out a deal, but negotiations stalled. But in shocking news, Correa is finalizing a deal, and it’s neither the Giants nor the Mets.

Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are close to finalizing a $200 million deal

According to the latest reports, Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are on the verge of finalizing a deal. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on the matter via Tweet, stating that it would be a 6-year $200 million deal. The agreement would also include a vested option for 4-years and $70 million. It only becomes official if Correa passes the medical review he is currently undergoing with the Twins.

In the Tweet, Passan said “BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.”

But the Twins are unlikely to have the same issue that the Giants and Mets did. The Minnesota-based team is the most familiar with Correa’s medical history. Furthermore, Correa is currently undergoing a review focusing on the right leg that he injured in the Minor Leagues. The Twins are unlikely to have a problem with Correa’s medical history. The All-Star shortstop hasn’t suffered any significant injuries since the Minor League injury. Furthermore, they will be happy to bet on his upside. 

Why are the Twins likely to complete a deal for Correa?

Carlos Correa has not suffered from any injuries since injuring his right leg while playing in the Minor Leagues. Furthermore, the former Astros shortstop has played some of his best baseball in the last two years. In 2021, he was an All-Star and generally had a great year. He played at an All-Star level in 2022 while emerging as a leader on the Twins.

Lastly, the team will be bringing back a player that fans were upset to see leave in free agency.
