In addition to partly owning the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rodriguez also owns the city’s other major basketball team – the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

Not many players get the honor of having their jersey numbers retired. Despite being one of the most recognizable names in baseball, even Alex Rodriguez hasn’t received that honor. But the WNBA world recognizes Sylvia Fowles and her contribution to the basketball world. The Minnesota Lynx retired her jersey no. 34 this Sunday and A-Rod had a special message for her.
“Hey, sending a quick shoutout here to Sylvia Fowles. We’re retiring your number thirty-four. You’ve had an incredible career – World Championship, MVP- you’re a legend,” Rodriguez said in an Instagram story. “All the way from Miami, Gulliver High School, to LSU to Minnesota, your whole career has been awesome. Congrats on number 34 baby going up to the rafters.”

The former Yankee has been vacationing with his family in Croatia and posting fun pictures from his trip. This video came from what seemed to be a ship in the middle of the ocean. When he comes back, he will be back to work on his sports teams, since the Timberwolves have struggled in recent years.

WNBA fans know the Minnesota Lynx team is not one to be overlooked. Sylvia Fowles became famous for her fierce fight to be allowed to play with the team because she believed she could be part of a championship-winning team. The Lynx are a powerhouse franchise that holds a WNBA record for 10 consecutive playoff appearances. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, have only made 11 playoff appearances in their 34 years.
