A closed roof at American Family Field didn’t stop the Milwaukee Brewers’ fireworks every time a homer entered the bleachers. By the end of the night, the Brew Crew’s fireworks left the New York Mets in a big cloud of smoke, with uncertainty and disappointment after they recorded their second consecutive big margin shutout against their National League rivals, Milwaukee Brewers.
With a payroll surpassing $300 million, Mets fans were at a loss for words after their first 10-0 loss to the Brewers on the road. However, their misery didn’t end there.
Since their ace Max Scherzer was starting in the second game against the Brewers, fans from Queens had high hopes, and expected a strong comeback in the second game of the series. But all they got was a combined defense and offense failure, and another shutout at American Family Field.

A $200 million payroll difference and an embarrassing nine-run defeat leave New York Mets fans in anger
The Brewers’ payroll for 2023 ends at $103 million, while the Mets, under Steve Cohen, have recorded the highest payroll in MLB history at $330 million. Despite such a massive payroll, fans could not take lightly such a humiliating defeat against the Brewers, who missed the playoffs in 2022.
FINAL: #Mets 0, Milwaukee 9

Scherzer, who started the game, threw five innings and gave away five runs before Brooks Raley conceded four more runs in the seventh innings. The offense, on the other hand, was completely shut out by the Brewers’ bullpen, who threw a scoreless game.
Fans were disappointed, furious, and shaken by their team’s disappointing performance. As a result, this is how they reacted:
this is literally poverty lmao

We don’t have any words and we know you don’t want to hear them.
We understand your anger your frustration your sadness. Everything you’re feeling we get it.
This isn’t the ending we imagined and certainly not the one we wanted. Thank you for being there the entire way.

Gotta make a change before it's too late, these games count just the same as games in September. Call up every young guy that looked good in spring, cut Nido and Escobar. 0 runs in 20 straight innings is absolutely unacceptable.

I just threw my glass table at my 80 inch TV, shattering both of them. This team has humiliated my entire family. My wife and kids are in tears as 40+ guests clear out of my house. Just threw my Max Scherzer jersey into the firepit. I can’t do this any longer!

You wouldn’t notice any difference between this team and the Wilpon teams if Steve Cohen didn’t own them. Lineup full of veterans that can’t produce. Pitching is suspect and lacks depth. $400M for this.

Nothing new. Lineup is lifeless. More losses like this coming throughout the year, especially with this lineup. As an honest and realistic fan of this team that continues to neglect its hitting, the Braves are miles ahead better. This is a fact. Accept it. Get over it. Move on

In an interview after the game, Max Scherzer spoke about his performance, and said, “It’s not the stuff. I’m generating swings and misses, but I’m not having ‘out’ pitches. I’m not generating swings and misses with two strikes. I’m not generating strikeouts like I can.”
After two humiliating defeats, the New York Mets, under the guidance of Buck Showalter, need to seriously regroup and prove their money’s worth as the season continues.
