Alex Bregman’s free agency has turned into a rollercoaster of sorts. Every day there’s a new high and then a bigger low. However, amidst these changes, one thing has remained constant – the Boston Red Sox’s interest. Despite the team not really making any offers to Bregman (surprising, right?), it has remained a favorite for the 30-year-old star. However, it looks like there’s growing competition for him, and this time, the spark is coming out from the National League side.

The Red Sox have missed out on nearly all of the major free agents in the last few years. Even in 2024, the team couldn’t close the deal with the likes of Juan Soto, Max Fried, and Corbin Burnes. As a result, it has become imperative for them to sign Bregman. If only to satiate their fanbase that is increasingly getting frustrated with the ownership’s direction. But while Bregman may still be available to them, it isn’t sure for how long. Because if one goes by what a former MLB star predicted, Milwaukee might have developed some love for Breggy.

Erik Kratz locks in Alex Bregman to the Milwaukee Brewers!

If you are surprised, so was everyone when Kratz mentioned the Milwaukee Brewers. But he gave his reasons for pitching this team in. According to him, Bregman is lining up to do a prove-it year, much like Cody Bellinger. “Milwaukee is going to swoop in with $27 million, a 1-year deal,” said Erik Kratz. For him, the team is trying to figure out their middle infield, and they have Joey Ortiz at third. So it’s not going to ruin his career if they slide him over. Hence, Kratz said, “Bergman, one-year deal to the Brewers, lock it.”

But it’s not going to be as simple for the Milwaukee Brewers. Because several teams are just playing the game of chicken now. They are watching the market go dry, offering something feasible for Alex Bregman. Because let’s be honest, $200 million isn’t a small amount! And as for the teams that still seem to be on the run for Bregman are the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and New York Mets.

Will the Red Sox finally break their free agent curse by signing Alex Bregman this year?

Now, surprisingly, even the closed doors of Houston too aren’t so closed. Mostly after Reggie Jackson’s X post, which has since gone pretty viral!

However, nothing is set in stone, but with spring training just moments away, a decision needs to be reached both for the good of the teams and the player. But what about the New York Yankees for Bregman’s run?

The Yanks were once considered a potential contender for Alex Bregman and also for Pete Alonso. But maybe not anymore! According to Barry M. Bloom of Sportico, a source close to the team confirmed, “The New York Yankees are done signing high-priced free agents.” So, chances are that only the lesser of the two most coveted free agents might join them. But why are they out of the race? It’s got a lot to do with their spending spree this off-season.

Right after Juan Soto signed the infamous contract with the New York Mets, the Yankees didn’t take a breather. They signed pitcher Max Fried for a $218 million deal and got Cody Bellinger via a trade. That’s not all; they got Paul Goldschmidt and re-signed Jonathan Loáisiga, among others. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said, “We’ve done some heavy lifting … but there’s more light lifting to do.”

Now New York Yankees sits second when it comes to MLB spending, having $270 million allocated for 13 players. They are trailing just behind the LA Dodgers. However, while they have gotten stars and possibly built a great lineup, they also have lost key players. Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, and Clay Holmes are all gone. Still, they are strong and deemed to dominate the AL, but budget issues will probably prevent them from going for an Alonso or a Bregman. Plus, their roster, too, seems pretty set, probably with a light shuffling.

No doubt, this Alonso and Bregman off-season has turned into quite a long and messy affair. Where do you think they will sign? Share with us in the comments!
