The Milwaukee Brewers might have just broken a world record. They have been making changes to both their major and minor leagues this offseason. Be it behind the scenes in their MLB office or in the dugout, the Brew Crew is all set to head into 2024 with the mentality of a victor, as it seems. However, in their recent move, they are on the verge of finalizing a deal with a centerfielder, which might be a record that few other teams will dare to break anytime soon.
They are reportedly in talks about signing a minor-league prospect, Jackson Chourio. In a deal that can be termed the most surprising one of this century, they are signing the slugger for an amount that no minor leaguer might have ever thought of to date.

Jon Heyman, MLB Insider and New York Post columnist, recently revealed on Twitter (now X) that the Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly finalizing a deal with Chourio. The contract, set at a baffling $82 million sum, offers the highest amount to any minor leaguer ever.
Brewers and Chourio are finalizing record deal expected to come in at $82M with $2M buyout on team options. Previous record contract for minor leaguer: Luis Robert $50M. Expectation is Chourio, who’s played 6 games above Double-A, will be Crew CF in 2024. https://t.co/wRNhzTVCii

The highest minor league deal received by a player before this was set at $50 million. The Chicago White Sox outfielder, Luis Robert, signed it for six years back in January 2020. This makes the Chourio deal $32 million more in the markup.
The $82 million contract details that have been revealed so far include two club options. It will have an 8-year guaranteed tenure, along with a $2 million buyout on team options. That means Chourio, who has yet to play in the majors, is all set to receive a hefty sum of $10.25 million a year from the moment he steps foot into the MLB starting next season.
Jackson Chourio is just 19 years old and has played six games above Double-A till now. The Brewers are looking to make him a crew player from the next season onward, Heyman says. Given Chourio’s immense talent paired with the high greens, the deal just might get known as a historical one by the Brewers of the future.
