With one of the biggest payrolls in the country, fans would expect better of the New York Mets. The Steve Cohen-owned team has struggled throughout the season. The bullpen is healthy enough, and the much-awaited star pitcher Justin Verlander is back in action. Even with pitching star Max Scherzer, a lack of performance persists. With the NL’s fourth-worst record in possession of the current roster, fans have had enough. In fact, one left a prime seat in the house in the middle of a game recently.
Given the deep-pocketed billionaire that owns the team, many had anticipated a good season. But unfortunately, things have consistently gone downhill. Hence, it’s not easy to point fingers at a single part of the team that’s shown absent performance. Many fans expected this, but apparently, the $86.7 million signee didn’t.
Justin Verlander didn’t see the New York Mets implosion coming!

After yet another loss, this time 2-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers, another Mets’ outing at Citi Field ended in a bust. Verlander pitched five scoreless innings, but even he couldn’t save the team alone from the mound. The offense managed to rack up just a single run, which was actually aided by a mistake on the Brewers’ part.

“I don’t think anyone saw this coming,’’ the 40-year-old Mets pitcher told The New York Post, as if in a daze. It didn’t help that Pete Alonso was out of action on the injured list for a while as the team continued to collapse. But they’re also missing pitching powerhouse Edwin Diaz after his World Baseball Classic injury.

With veteran ballplayers like Francisco Lindor and Daniel Vogelbach struggling, the rookies could use some help. But apparently, it was just Verlander who didn’t see this flop season coming. Every Mets fan knew otherwise and is mocking the three-time Cy Young award winner.
Mets fans did, indeed, see this slump coming
When Talkin’ Baseball posted Verlander’s comment on Twitter, hundreds of comments pointed out otherwise. That it must have only been the team that couldn’t predict the future because fans certainly could.
oh everyone saw it coming trust

Some mocked Verlander for his performance as well as how he seems to be in the last stages of his MLB career. The same went for Max Scherzer.

Millions on 2 aging pitchers and a mediocre, at best, lineup. Saw it as a huge bust before the season started.— John Henry (@upgjohn3) June 27, 2023
“Slump” nah you’re just bad lol

Dude, you are 40 years old. Aside from the Mets fans who were waving their ‘23, ‘24 and ‘25 World Series rings in everyone’s faces when “Uncle Stevie” signed Correa, everyone saw it.

Some ridiculed his comment.

The team’s last series vs the Philadelphia Phillies could have given some hope since it would be their first series victory since June 1. But more errors led to a loss, leaving fans fed up. As the two teams prepare to meet once more tomorrow, the outlook remains uncertain.
