Over the decades, Alex Rodriguez has put on multiple hats. A baseball player the like of which Major League Baseball had never seen before. A businessman with a net worth of millions. Part-owner of an NBA team, as well as a guest investor on Shark Tank. While one of these job titles had him hanging up his uniform in 2016 forever, A-Rod has embraced the role of a business mogul.
A 14-time All-Star and the 2009 World Series Champion, the former New York Yankees player had astounding stats in the 22 seasons he played baseball. But he knew he couldn’t be an athlete forever; so in 1995, Rodriguez made his first move to secure his financial future and invested in a duplex apartment. What grew from there was a multi-million empire that is still expanding today. Now, A-Rod is here to give some tips.

Having been in the financial and investing world for the last few decades, the former shortstop has learned some invaluable lessons. While having a mentor like Warren Buffett has certainly helped, Rodriguez’s own acute business sense has led him far. As such, he often speaks at conferences all around the world, helping budding entrepreneurs as well as seasoned professionals with priceless tips.

Recently, he flew across the continent to speak at The Multifamily Conference in Toronto, Canada. Rodriguez posted a few stories to his Instagram handle, sharing a picture of himself on an airplane and another one of him speaking at the conference. The audience was easily in thousands as they listened to him speak, enraptured.
“Over 3000 passionate entrepreneurs, ready to learn and invest,” the caption read. The Multifamily Conference focuses on real estate investing by holding multiple events annually. Coincidentally, it’s a field that Rodriguez just so happens to be a master of. Interestingly, he once put this ‘other’ job above his beloved sport.
For A-Rod, the real estate business is better than baseball
With 696 home runs, record-breaking MLB contracts, and member of the 3000-hit club, anyone would assume Rodriguez loved the sport. Which he does; but unfortunately, while being an athlete pays well, it doesn’t ensure a lifelong financial guarantee. To save himself from the fate that befalls too many sportspersons, A-Rod started securing his future early on.

Coming from humble beginnings, growing up with a mom who had to work two jobs to support him and his half-siblings, Rodriguez had to move often because of rent issues. He just wanted to own an apartment one day, and at 22 years old, he finally did it. That was the birth of A-Rod Corp. “Thirteen-thousand apartments later, it has been the greatest business,” Rodriguez told CNBC a few years ago. “Better than baseball.”
