Even though Mike Trout is considered by many to be the greatest of all time, his path was never one of roses. But there was a time when nearly the whole league wrote him off. The fact that he was the 25th draft pick says everything about this topic. The Los Angeles Angels took a chance on him and the rest is history. However, not every player goes through the same path, some get to the major leagues quite early. But things aren’t easy for them, Trout has explained why.
Trout’s explosion into the scene and that $426 million extension wasn’t something that many could predict. The fact that this young man was good in everything baseball was unfathomable. But then Trout became this good after learning to experience failures and understanding the meaning of moving forward. Some players have difficulty in accepting being less-than-good initially. Trout remembered his minor league days while giving some advice to those players.
“I came up through the whole minor leagues and there were times where I failed. And I felt I struggled at the plate and I worked myself out of it,” Trout said on the Foul Territory Show. The 3x MVP noted that nowadays some players are being called up rather quickly. As a result, they aren’t used to failures and dealing with them. That leads to confidence issues within them. Luckily, Trout helps them deal with it through some inspiring words.

“They hit a little bump in the road and how you deal with that, how you handle that. I think little stuff like calling over to the side, talking to them in the clubhouse, at the hotel just to say ‘you belong here.’ Just to keep that positive thought and ‘just keep working.’ That’s the biggest thing,” Trout said.
Certainly, Trout’s leadership skills have always been commendable. Despite his team’s hardships, he never ceases to remain positive. But does Trout have anything he’s left to prove? The superstar answered that question too.

“Nine-ten years ago it was coming to the ballpark, play baseball, and do your thing. And now when the injury bug started flaring out, I wouldn’t say trying to prove myself on the field. It’s just trying to keep myself on the field,” Trout said. In a way, the superstar said that his primary objective now is to stay healthy. That’s something that the entire Los Angeles Angels hope remains true.
Since the turn of the 20s, Trout’s injury record has taken a turn for the worse. The 3x MVP has missed a huge chunk of games in the past 3 seasons. That has certainly taken a toll on the team. However, earlier they had Shohei Ohtani who could at least cover for some of Trout’s production but now Trout is all they have. As a result, the great health of their golden boy is paramount for the Angels’ success. Especially after the huge start that Trout has got this season.
