If there’s one player who has suffered the most due to untimely injuries it’s Mike Trout. The 3x MVP’s body has been betraying him for quite some time now. From 2021 to the present day, freak injuries and bad luck have hampered the production of this Los Angeles Angels superstar. However, Trout has decided to take the bull by its horns this season. After years of struggle, he has finally changed his pre-game routine to safeguard his body.
To stay healthy became a necessity for Trout ever since Shohei Ohtani left the Angels. Even though speculations were rife about King Fish’s impending trade, he chose to stay loyal. But now he needs to make that loyalty count. Thankfully, Trout has found a way to make things work. The evidence of it? His tremendous start to the season.

Earlier in his career Trout wasn’t much of a heavy trainer. His raw power and extraordinary vision made it easy for Trout to go to the plate on any given day and attack. However, with age some of that power has reduced and his body has become softer. In his appearance on the Foul Territory Show, Trout shared that he has begun doing a “lot more pre-game now.”

“When I first came up, I was like, showed up to the ballpark, hit BP, played a game, get a couple hits, steal some bags, wake up next day feeling great. So it’s a little different (now). After game, you know, cold tub…and just stuff that you overlook at a younger age because you don’t really feel the effects of it,” Trout said.
Later the superstar said that he’s now trying to “stay on top” of all his injuries. Trout revealed that he no longer drinks soft drinks or indulges in fruit loops. As a result, the 3x MVP has found himself feeling better than ever. That’s great news for the Angels fans, especially amidst the ongoing injury pandemic in the league. Also quite interestingly, this changed approach is bearing fruits for Trout on the field.

It’s just been 21 games and Mike Trout’s WAR is already at 1.2 this season (per Baseball-Reference). That’s a ridiculous number this early in the season especially for Trout – he had 2.8 WAR in 2023. However, the real interesting parts are Trout’s stats – he’s currently leading the league with 8 home runs. On top of that he’s already stolen 5 bases (he stole 5 in total from 2021 to 2023).
More than a return to form, this feels like a rebirth. Perhaps what we’re witnessing is Mike Trout version 2.0. Has this put Trout right in the middle of an MVP race? Perhaps it has. However, the Halos aren’t taking full advantage of this great form yet. The team currently sits 3rd in AL West with a 9-12 record. Will fans witness a similar story once again? Where Trout succeeds but the Los Angeles Angels fail. Or is there a twist in the tale this time around?
