The Los Angeles Angels are in all sorts of trouble right now! They hope to bounce back from the numerous injuries that plagued their previous season by persevering through the current one. And, their 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP Mike Trout seems to be the only hope who looks to turn things around for the Angels, but how? Well, Trout looks happy with the advice received from Torii Hunter, a five-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner.
With the transition to the right field, Hunter’s suggestions come in handy, as stated by Trout, which he will look to implement and leave a significant mark in the upcoming games with the Angels. Now, as the Los Angeles Angels head towards the 2025 season and their star Mike Trout shifts his position to right field, there’s a legitimate reason behind this move. The main reason is reducing his workload, given that the veteran slugger suffered a lot due to injuries in the last season.
Torii Hunter, who is currently the assistant to the Angels general manager, Perry Minasian, also changed his position to right field during the later phase of his career, although he used to play as an outfielder mostly. Much like Trout, his transition wasn’t smooth, but he gradually adjusted to it. So, now on March 1, Mike Trout, when asked the transition on MLB Network, he said, “The first thing that came to my mind was Torii Hunter… It made it easier now that I’ve got someone I can talk to.”

The 33-year-old outfielder instilled faith in Torii Hunter, citing his decision was made easier as it would preserve his body while moving to the corner. More importantly, Trout has someone to share his problems with, and as we all know, a Gold Glover like Hunter and his suggestions can never go wrong. Isn’t it? Very likely, and Trout seems to be thinking the same, as he looks forward to making his presence count in the new position, with support from Hunter as well as the coaches.
So, how good is Mike Trout looking at the moment right now?
Angels’ veteran outfielder aiming to regain his previous form ahead of 2025 season
The 33-year-old star of the Los Angeles Angels has had a good 2024 regular season, as he managed to hit 10 home runs and 14 RBIs at an average of.220 with.325 OBP and.866 OPS. Not to forget that the injury to his knee limited his game numbers to just 29 in 2024. And now, with his transition to the right field, albeit for some health concerns, Trout is aiming to bounce back this season, and it seems very likely given his performance in the 2025 spring training. Numbers don’t lie, right?

During the 2025 spring training, Trout had an average of.200, with.500 OBP and 1.300 OPS, along with one home run and one RBI. Although it’s too early to say anything, Trout believes he was not chasing in the past few years; rather, he used to walk mostly. So, to turn things around, he would like to focus on getting back to both walking and chasing to get into the new position at the plate perfectly. It all comes down to how the club manages his workload, as his absence may again result in finishing with a bad record just like it happened in the previous season.
