One would think the off-season drama would be dying as now most of the moves have been done. The players have moved to their teams, and everyone is looking ahead to their spring training. But wait, not really! The drama got real when what was happening behind closed doors came to the forefront. At Mets Fan Fest at Citi Field, fans started shouting, ‘We want Pete! We want Pete!” Voicing their want for the return of their star, Pete Alonso. Steve Cohen seemed to have lost his cool and replied rather candidly.

Cohen mentioned that the Alonso deal was even more taxing than the Juan Soto deal- exhausting was the word. And well, that statement alone speaks a thousand words. He clarified that they had already made the best offer to Alonso that they could, which he rejected. So the reality, as Cohen put it, is they simply might have to go forward with the existing players! But here is the wordplay: he didn’t say – they would but – they might. And well, adding more to the theory is Heyman’s latest news–Lindor is in touch with Pete Alonso still now.

Alonso might come back to Mets

Now Jon Heyman views Francisco Lindor as the New York Met’s plausible captain. And he recently mentioned that Lindor and Pete Alonso have been in touch with each other. All this despite the clear tensions between Alonso, Scott Boras, and Steve Cohen, along with the rest. For him, depending on person to person, one can take what it means.

Heyman said, “I did mention that they were in touch. That doesn’t mean anything’s going to happen, but there’s that possibility. Not going to be shocked if it does happen with the Mets.” However, he did add that if that’s the case, then maybe Alonso would have to talk over and soothe the hard feelings. Which, by the words of Cohen, seems plenty. Because an owner speaking so candidly about it says a lot. But the question is what triggered Cohen, and it seems like it’s the terms presented by agent Boras to them—it was asymmetrical, as said by Cohen.

As per sources, the deal has an opt-out and also a payout deal that doesn’t sit well with the New York Mets. Boras has been flabbergasted by the fans outside and insiders, giving his players a false sense of value. Because of this, many think that Pete Alonso, being such an established player, is still without a team, even at this point. It’s not like he didn’t get offers; the Toronto Blue Jays offered him a great contract, but after what went down at Fan Fest, he might have changed his mind!

Pete Alonso is not keen to go anywhere other than New York!

Pete Alonso might not get what he is asking for from the Mets, still wants to go back! Early Game on YouTube reported that Pete Alonso is not thrilled with the drama unfolding. An insider in Early Game stated, “I have heard Scott Boras was deep into negotiations with the Blue Jays, but that Pete ultimately nixed the deal. He has told Scott Boras he wants to return to New York.” He wants to be back and play for the Mets.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan doubled down on the statement on The Michael Kay Show. He explained that both Mets and Alonso need each other for success. And given that the four-time All-Star is into joining a team with only championship aspirations, other teams in the running might not cut it. “Pete Alonso doesn’t want to go play on a team that’s not going to be in contention. He’s done that enough in his tenure with the Mets, and he’s 30 years old now, so it’s time to start winning. It’s time to go get a ring. You’re not getting a ring with the Angels, probably not getting a ring, let alone a playoff spot, with the Blue Jays,” said Passan.

Not just him. Even FOX Sports Deesha Thosar weighed in, saying it’s understandable if Alonso is upset over the Mets not understanding his value as he does. But the reality, according to Thosar, is that he has to accept the reality and move on. “It’s time for Alonso to accept that his destiny is calling him back to Queens.”
