It never really goes wrong when Aaron Boone says something! Isn’t it? Well, right after signing with the Yankees for a two-year contract, Boone made a statement that caught the attention of the New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. It’s all about the Mets’ blockbuster fifteen-year, $765 million deal with Juan Soto. So, what did he say?
Juan Soto, the 26-year-old Dominican outfielder, fetched a massive deal last year, surpassing the then-highest contract of Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million last year. However, with more money comes a whole set of expectations as well—quite visible from his 2024 record of.288/.419/.569 slash line, 109 RBIs, 41 home runs, and 129 walks.
Well, that’s probably the reason that the New York Yankees – despite losing out on Juan Soto – have all praise for him, citing that the Mets will surely love him getting on board. And that’s what Carlos Mendoza reveals on the Foul Territory episode on March 1 about Aaron Boone saying, “You’re going to love him.” Boone and Mendoza shared a close bond, and thus, when asked about what conversations they had about Soto, it was all about how good he was – not just as a player but also as a person. But that’s not all!

Carlos Mendoza even disclosed that Boone and others have given Soto a lot of praise ever since he signed his big contract with the Mets. But what’s more exciting to have Soto in the lineup is that he smashed a home run on four pitches in his first game wearing a Mets jersey and playing against the mighty Houston Astros. The massive hit by Soto travelled around 426 feet to the left center, that too at an exit velocity of 106.2 mph with a launch angle of 28 degrees. Talk about a massive slug!
However, considering the fifteen-year contract Juan Soto signed with the Mets, David Stearns must certainly ponder whether Soto is worth the money spent on him or not.
Juan Soto’s signing concerns the President of baseball operations
The New York Mets signing of the Dominican outfielder, Juan Soto, on December 11 has surely raised the bar for future negotiations by the players. While the entire team is happy, just like their president of baseball operations, David Stearns, is, he is still concerned about whether the contract money will pay off or not. For him, it’s not just the money and time, but also the profound impact that it may have in the future.

However, Stearns hasn’t been deterred much by the staggering nature of the deal; rather, he cited how good Juan Soto can be and the potential it holds for the Mets in the upcoming season. He also confirmed that the deal would pave the way for setting new standards in MLB contracts and the way long-term investments are made in the star player.

Although it remains a bold call made by the Mets, in case Juan Soto continues with the role for 15 years from now, a positive impact will be created on him as a player and also for the franchise. What’s your opinion on this? Let us know in the comments below.
