Alex Rodriguez has built a business empire after retiring from baseball. From real estate to investment, the New York Yankees legend owns an impressive portfolio of ventures. But the one that benefited from all his knowledge and expertise is none other than his ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez. A few months before their highly publicized split, JLo gushed over the business knowledge she gained from A-Rod.

A-Rod not only shared his knowledge but also invested in ventures with his then-fiancee. A short time before their split, JLo opened up about some of the business ideas that A-Rod shared with her. Furthermore, she said that it completely changed her business philosophy. 

Alex Rodriguez taught Jennifer Lopez about business

In November 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Jennifer Lopez appeared on ‘360 with Speedy Morman’ on the Complex YouTube channel. During that interview, she revealed some of the business knowledge that her then-fiance Alex Rodriguez taught her. It was mere months before their highly publicized breakup. She revealed that A-Rod helped her recognize her own value as a creator. Furthermore, he helped her understand the money side of things and about protecting her creative work.

She said, “Oh my God, I’ve learned so much from Alex. My whole philosophy on how I approach business is different since he came into my life.” While further elaborating, JLo said, “I am a creator, and he helped me realize, as when a great person comes into your life, that I was a scarce asset. That thing, a lot of people have money, a lot of people don’t have what artists have to offer. They don’t have that creativity. And he’s like we have to protect that and you have to own the things that you do, and no more licensing deals. We’re not doing that, we’re not giving away all this stuff for free.”

The pop icon also mentioned that she and her then-fiance invested in a few ventures together. Furthermore, Rodriguez’s advice helped her grow her personal brand as well. When they announced their split in April 2021, A-Rod and JLo said that they would continue to work on the projects that they were doing together. 

A-Rod and JLo tried to buy the Mets together

Although Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez worked on several projects together, their bid for the New York Mets was perhaps the most famous. A-Rod and JLo joined hands with investors to put in a bid when the team was being sold in 2020. It was a massive deal at the time, as the couple was looking to own a sports team together. They famously lost the bid to Steve Cohen under questionable circumstances. Losing to Cohen left Rodriguez furious. His dream to own a sports team eventually came true but without Lopez.
