The New York Mets, with almost $500 million in spending, could have done better this season. The team needs to gain winning momentum and is stuck at the fourth spot in the NL East, 6.5 games behind the playoffs spot. And it has prompted them to look for options to add strength to the squad for the future. According to the latest report, the struggling Buck Showalter-led side has signed a player before the trade deadline approaches.
Earlier reports suggested the Mets trade Justin Verlander with the Texas Rangers. However, in the recent shocking turn of events, the team has traded a dejected player with a Rangers prospect, who can play in multiple positions. Fans shared their thoughts on this deal, as it involved a trade of an experienced pitcher.
Exciting Prospect Headlines Mets’ Trade for Max Scherzer with Texas Rangers
As the trade deadline looms, teams are making moves in the market to strengthen the squad. Few are trying to make room for the young blood. It seems true with the New York Mets, who have traded their 39-year-old experienced pitcher, Max Scherzer, in place of a 21-year-old Rangers prospect, Luisangel Acuña. The deal, though, comes as a surprise after Max Scherzer expressed his desire to stay in New York and complete his $130 million contract.
Joe DeMayo, Co-Host of The Mets Pod, @SNYtv, shared this trade news on Twitter that read, “The Mets have acquired SS/2B/CF Luisangel Acuña from the Rangers for Max Scherzer”
“Acuña is hitting .315/.377/.453 with 25 doubles, 7 home runs, 51 RBI, and 42 stolen bases in 84 games for Double-A Frisco”
“He will be my No. 1 prospect in the Mets system”

Acuna is currently playing in the minor league and is expected to take a year or two to make his MLB debut. This deal will leave the Mets’ another player short in the pitching department after they traded David Robertson a day before. Scherzer even criticized the management for doing so with a thought about his future.
But fans are still happy, though they have questions regarding the player and his MLB use, but okayed the trade.
Fans term it a blockbuster deal!
Fans had high hopes for the Mets, which the team has failed to fulfill. But given that the future can change it, they want their team to be ready. And the first step is to have new, young players against the aging aces. And the latest deal achieved that target.
With numbers proving to be good, fans were happy. They had some concerns too, which the following tweets showed.

So, we don’t have pitching in the minors (nobody worth mentioning), and we got rid of two (starter and closer), and picked up minor league infielders. Yeah this is going to go well.
