With 13 losses and only 11 wins, the Seattle Mariners are off to a rather shaky start in the American League West Division. But things have just gotten worse for Seattle. Distinguished starter Robbie Ray, who made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2014, signed a five-year contract with the Mariners after the 2021 season worth $115 million. In 2021, Ray even won the AL Cy Young Award.
But after throwing 193 innings in 2022 at 2.84, Robbie Ray will be bidding adieu to the 2023 season with just one start in a losing cause.
A big blow for the Seattle Mariners

On March 31, Ray made his first season start against the Guardians, where he struggled to find rhythm, or even locate his fastball. He failed to get good velocity, and after allowing five walks and pitching just three innings, he was taken off. Consequently, the uncomfortable-looking Mariners ace was put on the 15-day injured list.
The latest update from the Mariners announces that the LHP will miss the entire 2023 season as he needs to undergo surgery to repair his flexor tendon.

Seattle Mariners skipper Scott Servais spoke about Ray’s injury, and said, “The actual area that he damaged, that [has] been kind of repaired. That had looked cleaned up. That was fine. But he got some new images, and then he was still having some pain down in the elbow area. So, they took some more images and that’s what they found.”
That being said, the Mariners house significant talent in their farm system, if Spring Training was any indication. Bryce Miller, the second-ranked prospect leads the pack, followed by Emerson Hancock ranked fourth, Bryan Woo at six, and Prelander Berroa at fourteenth.

The Mariners fans were dejected, to say the least. At the same time, a few Houston fans made it to the comments to mock the Mariners, whose fans celebrated their star baseman José Altuve’s injury.
