New York Yankees is a storied franchise that has seen some true legends over the years. One such legend is none other than the iconic closing pitcher Mariano Rivera. He was a key player for the Pinstripes and played his entire career with them, winning 5 World Series titles. Furthermore, he established himself as one of the most clutch performers in both Yankees and MLB history. 

Rivera performed both during the regular season and the postseason, earning himself acclaim and picking up numerous records. One of the most famous things associated with Rivera was his walk-out song, ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica. Most recently, the Yankee legend shut down comparisons between his entrance song and that of the New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz.

In recent years, Edwin Diaz has emerged as a star closer for the New York Mets. Diaz’s entrance song ‘Narco’ has also become extremely popular among fans. When Mariano Rivera was asked his opinion on the comparisons between ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Narco’, he was straightforward. The Yankee legend was quick to say that there’s no comparison. He shut down the question with just one sentence before further explaining.

Rivera said that there are 17 years of history and many championships behind his entrance song. Talkin’ Yanks shared the video of Rivera answering the question via Twitter.

In the video, Rivera said, “There’s no comparison. There’s no comparison on that you know? That song was there for 17 years and many championships. So there’s no comparison.”

Rivera was quick to shut down any comparisons, and rightly so. The Yankee legend won 5 World Series titles and broke numerous records while walking out to that song. Furthermore, Diaz is yet to pick up any massive achievements and has only been using the song since 2018. Getting back to Rivera, he was recognized for his achievements in a historic way in 2019.

In 2019, the New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Furthermore, he was the first unanimous selection in baseball history. According to Bleacher Report, Rivera was “the first unanimous Hall of Fame electee in history”.
