Even with their failures in the past decade, the New York Yankees are inarguably the most successful MLB franchise. Many baseball athletes have been part of this glorious history. The list includes Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio, who graced the sport in the early days. But when talking about baseball in the modern days, it was the core 4 of the New York Yankees who took the Pinstripes to new heights.
Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte, these players played instrumental roles in establishing the Yankees as a heavyweight in the late 90s and early 2000s. The Yankees had a successful two decades, in which the core four played a big part in the success. Given that all four debuted in 1995, they shared many similar characteristics, which made them champions. Jeter revealed one of them during his conversation nine years back. He was on stage with former teammates.
The conversation started with the question of the importance of every game. Jeter had a brilliant answer to it. It went in line with his characteristic as a star player. He said, “Listen, I think everybody up here, I mean to be quite honest with you, they have the same demeanor, whether it’s Game of Spring training or the World Series. I think that’s why we’ve been able to play here for this long, especially in New York.”
While focusing on the importance of every game, Jeter added, “We don’t treat anything differently. Every game is important. You know, you always ask – you see guys playing in the world seriously and talk about how important it is. Well, it’s not any more important than any other game you play. If you say it’s more important, you didn’t care about the other ones.”
