Manny Ramirez spent a career crushing fastballs and winning hearts, but even he wasn’t ready for this curveball. Loyalty is a tricky game, especially when the family steps up to the plate. As Lucas Ramirez made history under the bright lights, his father watched—proud, conflicted, and perhaps wondering if fate had just pulled off the ultimate inside joke. Case in point? We very often see players having to choose between the country they will represent owing to their parents coming from different nations.

This was also the case with Lucas as he chose to play for his mother’s home country, Brazil instead of the Dominican Republic like his father. With Brazil qualifying for the WBC 2026, they will be facing off against the top teams in the world. For the unversed, Lucas Ramirez and team played a major part in Brazil beating Germany and breaking their 12-year-old curse of not making it to the WBC. Their last appearance in the WBC was back in 2013 when they exited the pool stage. But this time the story was different!

With Manny Ramirez in the stands, Lucas helped Brazil slay Germany 6-4. After the game, Manny jumped into the media wanting to know where his son got to learn the bat swing from. To which Lucas Ramirez said, “I taught myself how to hit,” while smiling at the reporters.

This was a very hard-fought win for Brazil as Germany did give them a scare. Brazil got hot right at the start as they scored in the first inning. Leonardo Reginatto came through for Brazil as they scored twice in the inning. Lucas Ramirez joined the party in the 5th inning after he hit an RBI single and drove in a run.

The Germans did not give up and scored 4 in the 7th inning but were not a match for the Brazilian bullpen. After the game, Reginatto said that he was very happy to be here and the other guys in the team pushed him to play well. This meant a lot not only for the team but also for the whole nation of Brazil.

As the nation celebrates its long-awaited return to the WBC, one can’t help but wonder if Manny Ramirez just witnessed a passing of the torch—or a test of his patience. Loyalty in baseball is never simple, but one thing is clear: Lucas Ramirez isn’t just following in his father’s footsteps—he’s carving his own path, one clutch hit at a time!
