Is A-Rod's hometown initiative a game-changer, or just another celebrity PR stunt?

Alex Rodriguez may be a famous baseball player from New York but his roots lie deep within the Dominican community. Born in New York in 1975 to Dominican natives, Victor Manuel Rodriguez and Lourdes Nelly Navaro, A-Rod has a deep connection with his heritage. Earlier this year, he was on vacation to the Dominican Republic with his girlfriend and daughters, exploring the island in a cool open buggy car! He was caught showing off the island and the chill vibes of the place.

However, the visit wasn’t just all about enjoying the place; Alex was also on the frontline to give back and support the Dominican Republic. Recently, A-Rod was seen in the Olympics with a Dominican flag supporting his home country. Going back to his heritage roots, Alex Rodriguez recently also made the effort to meet the Dominican Republic president Luis Abinader. The former New York Yankees player also praised President Luis Abinader over the recent developments in the nation.

Growing up, Alex Rodriguez had to put in extra effort. He grew up a NY Mets fan and excelled at the Christopher Columbus High School in Miami. He was even drafted first overall in 1993 by the Seattle Mariners when he was just 17! Then, Alex made his MLB debut a year later and was with the Mariners for seven seasons before he signed a whopping $252 million contract of 10 years with the Texas Rangers. Following this, he was traded to the New York Yankees before the 2004 season, where he played for 12 legendary years and finally retired in 2016.

But Rodriguez’s impact goes beyond the sport. He has been actively involved in philanthropy, from partnering with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund previously to empowering college students to get into the business side of sports. He has also donated money to COVID-affected people and donated to build baseball stadiums. In 2009, Alex Rodriguez donated $250,000 for a mobile van that provided free service in underprivileged NYC neighborhoods. Now, he is actively talking to the president, which shows he is all hands on deck to help improve things in the Dominican Republic.
