Could the Dodgers' wealth turn Juan Soto into the ultimate nightmare for rival teams?

You know what’s as exciting as the World Series? The free agency season; with players like Juan Soto heading into free agency, it’s becoming the talk of the town. At just 26, he’s poised to become the second-highest-paid player in baseball history—only Shohei Ohtani will be in front of him. With his talent, it’s no surprise the Yankees and Mets will be in hot pursuit, and the Blue Jays could sneak in there too. And let’s not forget about teams like the Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, and even the Nationals potentially throwing their hats in the ring.

Juan Soto has definitely made a splash in his first year with the Yankees. Those numbers—.288/.419/.569, 41 home runs, and leading the league with 128 runs—are impressive, to say the least. He’s stepped up in the postseason too, with a 1.106 OPS.  As for whether he’s found a permanent home in the Bronx, it sure feels that way. Aaron Judge’s comment on Juan Soto’s upcoming free agency backed this sentiment: “When the time comes and this is all over, he’ll make the right decision.” It shows that he trusts Soto to make the best choice for his career. Experts predict a 15-year deal worth between $550 million and $650 million – that’s a lot of zeros!

Judge knows how important this decision will be for Soto, especially after such a fantastic season. It’s interesting to think about what factors might influence Soto’s choice—whether it’s the Yankees’ commitment to winning, the chance to play alongside stars like Judge, or even the city itself. When the time comes, the Dominican professional baseball outfielder will weigh all those options carefully. What do you think Soto will prioritize when making his decision?

If it’s not the Yankees for Juan Soto, then who?

Courtesy of one man, Steve Cohen, the Mets are in a prime position.  The team has shown they can compete after reaching the NCS, even in a year many thought would be more about rebuilding. Now, with some payroll flexibility thanks to trading away big contracts like Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, the Mets are sure to make a move. Soto is beloved by the National’s fan base. Isn’t it unbelievable to think that the left fielder turned down a $440 million extension but still gets a rousing ovation when he shows up? But, of course, the big question is about the money.

The Lerner family has spent big in the past—sometimes it worked out, other times, not so much. So, will they be willing to shell out the cash to bring the 26-year-old back? It’s a gamble, for sure. Every fan outside of Los Angeles gets shivers at the thought of Soto joining the Dodgers! Considering how wealthy the Dodgers are, it’s a nightmarish situation. You can guarantee they’ll want to make a huge impression if they lose another World Series, and Soto is the ideal person to do it.
