The 2023 MLB season has been full of surprises thus far. One of the more shocking twists has been the poor performance of the New York Mets. They have struggled to win games consistently with injuries and poor form hampering their play. Most recently, the team signed a struggling former New York Yankees infielder to add depth.

It’s safe to say that opinion on the signing is divided as fans display mixed reactions. But the Mets have nothing to lose, as they battle some poor form and unlucky results. This signing is a shot in the dark as the team aims to make a comeback. 

New York Mets sign former Yankees player Luke Voit to Minor League deal

The Mets are struggling to win games at the moment. They have won only 2 of their last 10 contests and are in a rough place. This is due to injuries and players’ poor form. Most recently, the team signed former Yankees designated hitter Luke Voit who most recently suited up for the Milwaukee Brewers. Voit joins the Mets organization on a Minor League deal as the team looks to shore up some batting depth. The team announced the deal via Twitter, sharing that he will join the Syracuse Mets. 

In a Tweet, they said, “We’ve signed first baseman Luke Voit to a minor league contract. He will join the Syracuse Mets and be active tomorrow.” Voit has struggled to find his power this season with 0 home runs so far.

The reactions to the deal have been mixed. 

Some fans were baffled by the deal. 

Other fans supported giving the struggling power hitter a chance. 

It will be interesting to see how the deal turns out with Voit playing in the Minor Leagues for now. But the deal is low-risk with the potential to help alleviate the Mets’ batting issues. Furthermore, with Pete Alonso getting injured, the situation may get worse. 

Mets star Pete Alonso is on the injured list

During a recent game, Mets star infielder Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch and suffered a bone bruise. The ball hit him in the wrist, causing the injury that has him on the injured list. This year he is one of the MLB’s best power hitters and has been great. His League-leading 22 home runs have proven crucial for the Mets thus far. Furthermore, they will miss him as he recovers from this injury.
