In 2016, Colin Kaepernick popularized the act of taking a knee during the national anthem. It was a symbol of protest against systematic oppression and racism. The gesture was a powerful statement against racial injustice and police brutality. It soon gained traction across the country.

Amidst the height of this movement, in 2017, the Los Angeles Dodgers were in the midst of a fantastic season. They were headed to the MLB World Series. Enter Stevie Wonder, a musical pioneer and the soul of America, who had already taken a knee in support of the NFL protests that year. And if reports are true, the iconic singer was hoping to perform at the MLB World Series, too.

A TMZ reporter approached the legendary musician at the time. He asked if the musician would be willing to sing the anthem at the World Series. Wonder, an anthem lover, responded with a smile, “You know, I love the song…and I love playing it on the harmonica.”

The reporter pressed further, asking if Wonder would take a knee while performing the anthem at the World Series. Wonder paused, his eyes reflecting the weight of the moment, and simply responded, “You know what I would do. You know me.” His response carried a sense of certainty, a recognition that his actions would be in line with his values and beliefs.

The question remained, would the Dodgers or MLB allow Wonder to perform the national anthem at the World Series? With his harmonica in hand, and to continue his political stance?

Did Stevie Wonder play at the World Series?

Unfortunately, Stevie Wonder was not able to perform at the World Series, and the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Houston Astros. Yet, the possibility of Wonder taking the stage, playing his harmonica, and using his platform to make a statement, still holds a sense of wonder and imagination.
