When any disaster strikes, the power of the community is tested. Los Angeles was in chaos when the fire brought devastation. It turned homes to ashes and displaced so many people and animals. But lucky for the community, the ones they supported, and cheered on for so many years, stepped up big time – the Los Angeles Dodgers. Everyone did their bit to help the community rise like a phoenix.
And Mookie Betts and his wife Brianna are no strangers to giving back.
Through their 5050 Foundation, they have worked hard to uplift communities and empower people. And now, they stepped up big, donating $30,000 worth of shoes and clothing to help victims of the LA wildfires.

“We are so excited to be donating $30,000 of shoes and apparel to LA fire victims, a small step in helping to get our neighbors back on their feet,” was the message the duo shared through their foundation. And this means a huge ton to people who lost everything.
But Betts isn’t the only Dodger star who stepped up in times of need.

The entire Los Angeles Dodgers team has been as supportive as possible.
On January 30, for example, Shohei Ohtani, Ben Casparius, and Emmet Sheehan visited fire station 69 in Pacific Palisades as part of their Dodgers Love LA Community Tour. There, they thanked the first responders, from firefighters to the paramedics, for their immense efforts. And they didn’t just turn up there for words of appreciation. They donated around $10,000 to Fire Station 69 and $350,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
Shohei Ohtani also personally donated $500,000. And since he has a deep love for animals, his donation extended to displaced animals and also, firefighters. Southern California has been Ohtani’s home since his MLB debut, and hence this meant a lot.
Even Dodgers star Freddie Freeman, along with Angels’ Mike Trout, surprised two young collectors with new baseball items after they lost everything in the wildfire.
From direct relief efforts to financial support, the Dodgers keep proving they are more than just a baseball team. They are a family, and they have the fans’ backs.
Los Angeles Dodgers star yet again steps up for Women’s Day
The $365 million star Mookie Betts decided to make not a handful but several women feel special. Through his 5050 foundation, he and his wife are giving back. The foundation announced a huge commitment to support the LAUSD softball teams in 2025. A step towards empowering the young female athletes.

The foundation said, “We’re proud to support women from all walks of life and appreciate everything they do for our communities. We’re especially excited to support LAUSD softball teams this year! Happy International Women’s Day!”
But this is not the only way that Mookie Betts is giving back to the community since he created this foundation in 2021.

Betts and Brianna have also focused on providing opportunities for underprivileged youth in sports. Anyone playing sports must be aware of the importance of nutrition knowledge for youngsters. But not everyone knows this! The 5050 Foundation shared a painful stat from the CDC. Between 2000 and 2014, the percentage of schools serving proper nutrition education dropped from 84.6% to 74.1%.
That’s a huge deal.
So now, the 5050 Foundation is making it their goal to ensure student-athletes have the nutritional resources they need.
