Mike Trout has begun the 2023 MLB season with a point to prove, showing off his elite batting display. He is hoping to carry the Los Angeles Angels to the postseason this year. But those hopes took an early season dent as the Angels recently suffered a defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Angels unveiled a new tradition with Trout at the center of it, but it was dampened by the loss. The star centerfielder did his best to keep his team in the game but was unable to win it single-handedly.

The Los Angeles Angels have a new dugout home run celebration. Last season, they wore a cowboy hat to celebrate their homers, but this season their home run hat is a Samurai helmet. The suggestion was made by none other than Shohei Ohtani. Mike Trout is the first person to wear this hat. He smashed a home run in the Angels’ recent game against the Toronto Blue Jays. But unfortunately, his big hit was not enough to win the game, as the Blue Jays took a 4-3 victory. MLB shared an image of Trout wearing the helmet on Twitter.

In a Tweet, they said, “The new samurai home run helmet looks good on you, @MikeTrout!” The new celebration is a nice touch, to add some life to home runs. It will be interesting to see the Angels’ new tradition take root, as it has already gained some popularity amongst fans.

The reactions to the celebration are divided, with fans unhappy with the game’s result.

Some fans enjoyed the new Samurai helmet.

The season has started off okay, with the Angels now sitting at 4 wins and 3 losses so far. But there are many games left to play and the Los Angeles-based team may yet make the postseason. 2023 has huge implications for Trout and the Angels franchise.

2023 is a big season for the Angels

If the Los Angeles Angels qualify for the postseason this year, it may convince Shohei Ohtani to sign a new deal. But if the Angels miss the playoffs, it is very likely that Mike Trout will lose his two-way phenom teammate. Ohtani is hitting free agency after the 2023 season, with rumors of a possible $500 million contract floating around.
