Ask any business owner for advice, and the first thing they’ll tell a person is – learn from your mistakes. In a world of eight billion people and rising, it’s not easy to leave a mark. Even if someone is fortunate enough to be born into a good family, life always finds a way to disrupt comfort. And this is how the stories of many a businessman are formed. Which, coincidentally, includes former Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez.

Coming from a dysfunctional family, with an absent father and mother who worked two jobs, Rodriguez had it hard. But he worked himself up the ranks and showcased his baseball talent to the world. A-Rod retired in 2016 after a mostly successful career of twenty-two seasons. And since then, he has devoted himself to his business.

And how did he come by all that success in life? It was not just an aptitude for business and baseball but a unique strategy that the former shortstop applied.

Rather than believing in failures, Alex Rodriguez believes in learning from them

A-Rod frequently gives talks and professional advice on what he’s learned in his years as the founder and CEO of A-Rod Corp, an investment firm. He even teaches students at Stanford University! And one of the main points he believes in is – there are no failures, only mistakes you can learn from. Which is in the vein of Thomas Edison, who said that even if he didn’t find the correct way, he found thousands of wrong ways that he can now eliminate.

The ex-Yankee made an appearance on the podcast Growing BOLD, where host Brian Cristiano discussed failures, and how when you expect them, it becomes part of the process. But Rodriguez countered, “I understand the power of words. So I would never tell myself I’m gonna expect bad things to happen.”

Of course, it’s always good to have a backup option but one should focus on bringing success to plan A so that it doesn’t leave room for failure.

According to A-Rod, turbulence is just par for the course

Rightly said. One can work the hardest to their limitations and even surpass them. But in this world, nothing is set in stone. Unforeseen circumstances always have a way of burrowing in even the surest of situations. The important thing is to not be weighed down by those failures. As Rodriguez said, in the path of life, ups and down will happen. The plane may even go off-course for a while, but the crucial thing is that it comes back.
