Aaron Judge and Juan Soto were the power-hitting duos of the season. Their dynamics on and off-screen felt so powerful that many compared them to Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. But now, after what Judge had to say about Soto’s free agency, it seems like maybe they weren’t all that close. After winning his second MVP, Judge disclosed to the reporters that he wasn’t talking to Soto about joining back in the Bronx.

“I haven’t talked to him at all. I think the best thing is to really give those guys space,” Judge mentioned. Now this statement took everyone aback, given how crucial getting Soto is for the Yankees. After all, they got back into the World Series after a long break, and it happened with Soto on their side. Given that, Trevor May, who pitched for the Minnesota Twins, the New York Mets, and even the Oakland Athletics, felt Judge’s comment was out of place.

Trevor May, who was in the Foul Territory podcast, mentioned that if Judge and the Yankees need Soto, they need to be able to flex that muscle. “You’re Aaron Judge, man. You are the LeBron James of the game right now,” was May’s response. By that, he is suggesting that Judge can play a bigger role in getting Soto to the Bronx. However, Trevor May did find Judge’s behavior odd!

“It is interesting and kind of odd that he was very adamant about his not talking to him, which seemed a little out of place with the situation,” May stated. And it makes sense because many a time we have seen Aaron Judge talk and appreciate Soto. So staying mum here seems odd; however, May ended by saying—maybe it’s just Judge’s style or personality.

Trevor May mentioned, “He’s not the most in-your-face strong personality; I’m going to insert myself into this situation, guy. That’s something he does not seem comfortable with or something he likes doing.” May mentioned that it might be something that comes with the captain’s tag!

The New York Yankees have a Plan B in action

The New York Yankees are pulling all the stops to clinch Juan Soto. Hal Steinbrenner, who is never the one to talk openly about or chase a player, is doing everything for Soto. He was at the meeting in California with Soto and even explained to him why he didn’t get to speak to the 26-year-old more often. Now that shows that they want Soto. However, if things don’t go their way, they need a Plan B, and hence they are not putting all eggs in one basket

They were apparently to wait till they sign Juan Soto, till they talk to their players. But now they have reached out to the top free-agent pitchers like Max Fried and Corbin Burnes. We wonder if it’s because the Dodgers already made a huge move with signing Blake Snell. Anyway, Jon Heyman had reported that the Yankees are in talks with Fried and Burnes, but they haven’t made any offers yet. These calls are seen as Plan B in case Juan Soto ends up in the LA Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Mets. Nevertheless, Soto is still the No. 1 priority for the Yankees, and Heyman even reported that the Yankees have sweetened their offer for Soto.

Well, it remains to see if Soto can rival Ohtani’s $700 million contract. Do you think it can? Let us know in the comments.
