Recently, in an interview with TMZ Sports, Sabathia was asked about Judge’s contract and whether he felt the Yankees had overpaid. The retired pitcher answered immediately, saying that Judge was paid exactly the right amount. Sabathia said, “I think he got paid the perfect amount”.

Many analysts believe Judge earned himself the massive 9-year deal with his play in 2022. Furthermore, they credit him for having the courage and tenacity to bet on himself. Notably, Judge had rejected a 7-year $213.5 million deal during 2022 spring training, as he chose to prove himself instead.

The risk paid off as the 2022 season was the best that Judge has ever played. It could not have come at a better time as he was set to enter free agency after the 2022 season. This led to a tense period of free agency, but the Yankees were able to keep their superstar for 9 years and $360 million.
