The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t stopping! After getting Shohei Ohtani they’ve now signed another huge name in their bid to win the World Series next year. Although it was initially reported to be a trade deal, now reports have emerged that Tyler Glasnow has also signed a huge extension with the Dodgers. The Blue Crew ignored all the injury concerns in a deal that could have huge ramifications for them.

LA also traded in Manuel Margot from the Tampa Bay Rays in this deal. As a result the Dodgers suddenly have depth not just in their pitching but the outfield as well. And it looks like Tyler Glasnow is here to stay.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan has reported that Tyler Glasnow has just signed a contract extension with the Dodgers for five years and $135 million. After signing Shohei Ohtani for a $700 million contract, this has become another expensive signing for the Dodgers. Though Glasnow comes with the potential risk of injuries, the Blue Crew are willing to take that risk due to his brilliant record in the previous years.

Glasnow has been a flagship pitcher for the Rays for the past few years. During that time, he has consistently produced numbers that few expect from the pitcher of a low-payrolled team. His 3.53 ERA in 2023, plus his career WAR of 7.1 makes him an elite addition to the Dodgers’ rotation. The team struggled the entire last year due to terrible pitching depth but with Glasnow, they may be close to filling the gap.

Even so, the pitcher’s history of health issues can’t be ignored. In 2021, the ace underwent Tommy John surgery after rehabbing the elbow injury failed. As a result, he missed much of 2022, but his 2023 form shows that Glasnow may be slowly regaining his form before surgery. The Dodgers, who have one of the best systems of nurturing talent, may find good use in his arm.

As it stands though, this signing has sent the league on notice. The Dodgers are coming for the trophy and they’re willing to do anything to get it.

The Blue Crew’s quest for victory

The Dodgers are close to making history this offseason. After offering Shohei Ohtani the biggest contract in American sports history, they might become the first team to spend more than $1 billion in contracts. Already in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto race, various reports say they’re well ahead of the pack. Now with the Glasnow deal, they have strengthened their weakest spot – pitching.
