Injuries are part and parcel of baseball. Many athletes have resigned themselves to the fact that their bodies may break down. But this year, there has been an increase in freak accidents, causing several players to suffer from injuries in Major League Baseball. Most recently, a Minnesota Twins infielder suffered a horrific injury mid-game, with fans praying for his safety.

The incident has resulted in players’ safety being discussed as to what measures can be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring again. Although it was an accident, fans have shown genuine worry for the well-being of their favorite stars.

Minnesota Twins star Kyle Farmer suffers a hit to the face during their most recent game

The Minnesota Twins recently picked up a big 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. But there was a shadow looming over the result as Twins shortstop Kyle Farmer suffered a horrific injury. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Farmer was hit in the face with a fastball. The infielder crumpled to the floor and was covering his face, due to the impact of the blow. Fox Sports: MLB shared the news via a Tweet, emphasizing that Farmer left the game after the incident. 

In a Tweet, they said, “Kyle Farmer exits the game after being hit in the face by a pitch.” Farmer was helped off the field with a towel covering his bloodied face. Earlier in Spring Training, Boston Red Sox’s Justin Turner faced a similarly horrific injury.

The reactions have been overwhelmingly positive with a number of fans showing the Twins star support. Other fans wondered what measures can be taken to better protect players. 

Some fans acknowledged Farmer’s toughness.

Other fans wished for his speedy recovery.

Other fans advocated for better safety measures and criticized the pitch clock.

The injury did require surgery, but luckily, the injury was not life-threatening. But Farmer suffered serious damage to the lower lip. An MLB insider provided an update regarding his condition following the surgery.

Kyle Farmer is safely out of surgery 

The Athletic’s Dan Hayes has provided an update on the surgery, with a statement directly from the Minnesota Twins. In a Tweet, he shared the update which said, “Kyle Farmer had successful surgery today at Regions Hospital with Dr. Dave Hamlar, MD oral and maxillofacial surgeon, on his lower lip and bottom four teeth. Dr. Hamlar was able to suture the lacerations to his lower lip and reset his bottom teeth with minimal hardware necessary to maintain the integrity of the teeth.”
