The New York Yankees are breathing easy tonight. With a series opener victory against the Kansas City Royals, the team has finally snapped its losing streak. Some fans were upset that others seemed to be celebrating a victory taken against a less-than-subpar team. But it’s a huge win for others given the underperforming roster. And it seemed like the lucky charm for them was NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick.

For many NASCAR fans, 2023 is a bittersweet season. The 47-year-old Harvick is retiring after this season’s end post decades of delighting fans as a driver. The veteran announced this news earlier this year after weeks of speculation, leaving fans sad. Meanwhile, however, he’s indulging in his love for baseball.

Yankee Stadium hosted many a guest during their series opener against the Royals. But one superfan stood out from the crowd. Harvick is apparently a longtime Yankee fan and makes frequent appearances at their games.

In 2011, the racer even threw out the ceremonial first pitch for a match-up between the Bronx Bombers and the Los Angeles Angels. Just as on Friday night, Harvick proved to be a good luck charm as the Yankees won!

The Bronx Bombers posted a picture of the NASCAR superstar in a Yankee cap and jersey, wearing his signature glasses, standing at the ballpark. As Harvick gives a smile to the camera, the caption reads, “THANKS TO @NASCAR DRIVER @KEVIN HARVICK FOR STOPPING BY!”

In 2011, the current ballpark was still new, and Harvick was happy to have gotten the chance to pitch there. “I had a great time last night at Yankee Stadium,” the driver said back then. “I can now say I have thrown out the first pitch at the new Yankee Stadium, as well as the new one, which will be a memory I will never forget.”

Ahead of Anthony Volpe and Billy McKinney’s heroics, someone else started things off for the game. Howie Smith, Director and Vice Chairman of Finance for Starr Companies, had the honor this time.

The Yankees have paired up with Starr Insurance for their uniforms in the second half of the season, so it was a momentous throw.
