It has been a historic night at Truist Park in Atlanta. The Boston Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 5-2 as they evened the score of their two-game series. Brayan Bello had five strikeouts and allowed two runs on six hits. Recent signee Raimel Tapia had a pinch-hit double in the seventh inning. While the Braves tied the game in the sixth, the Red Sox rallied to snatch the victory; most notably, Kenley Jansen saved the day.

In his first season in Boston, Jansen is already making history. After playing for the Braves last season, the pitcher showed no mercy to his old team. In the ninth inning, the Atlanta team remained scoreless as Jansen ended the game with a stunning display. And as he achieved something only 6 players have done before, the Boston starter received words of congrats from a Red Sox legend.

As he struck out one batter and only allowed one hit in the ninth, Jansen’s career stats tallied up to 400 saves. It’s something only 6 pitchers have managed to do in league history. Mariano Rivera leads the chart at 652, followed by Trevor Hoffman at 601. Other names include Lee Smith, Francisco Rodriguez, John Franco, and Billy Wagner.

And since joining this elite group is no small task, Boston pitching legend Pedro Martinez also had words of congratulations to offer.

The 3x Cy Young Award winner posted a video on Twitter as the game played in the background. In it, he said, “Hey Kenley, I wanted to be one of the first to congratulate you on the 400th save in your career. May God bless you, keep you healthy, and you?re going to save many more. God bless you, my brother. I love you. Yeah!” In addition to being a stellar player, Martinez is known for striking out Yankees’ Derek Jeter multiple times.

The Cura?aoan player also seemed happy and shocked at the same time as he addressed fans in a video posted by the team later. “It?s a pleasure. It?s an honor, man. To do it with this organization,” Jansen said.

What are the Boston Red Sox fans saying about this iconic moment?

To say that baseball fans generally had mixed reactions would be an understatement. Jansen had been struggling this last season with the Braves, so naturally, expectations for this season are high. But his previous stats have shown what a talent he truly is, and many congratulated him for this achievement.

Even a Braves fan couldn’t help but be impressed.

One was disgruntled that the win didn’t happen at Fenway Park.

Some referenced his amazing speed.
