Los Angeles Dodgers fans found themselves treated to a double dose of excitement. This Monday night, not only did the team dominate the Miami Marlins with an 8-1 victory, but young phenom Gavin Lux also launched his first home run of the season.

And let’s not forget that the soundtrack to his success was Kendrick Lamar’s voice. Lux, batting in the eighth position for the Dodgers, had a new walk-up song for the occasion: the assertive anthem “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar. The choice was a subtle yet clear nod to the ongoing fire between rap titans Lamar and Drake.

The tension between Kendrick Lamar and Drake is not a new one. In fact, it has been simmering for years, with occasional lyrical jabs. These were signs of perceived indications that would fuel the flames.

Back in 2015, some fans believe the mutual admiration between the two rappers started to wane around this time, with Drake’s song “Back to Back” interpreted as a subtle dig at Lamar’s critically acclaimed album “To Pimp a Butterfly.”

Two years later, in 2017, things got more explicit. Lamar’s album “DAMN” was seen as containing references to Drake’s ghostwriting controversy, casting doubt on Drake’s authenticity. And over half a decade of peace, in 2023, the feud seemingly reignited when Kendrick dropped a surprise single, “The Heart Part 5,” which many believe directly addresses Drake, criticizing his reliance on industry trends and inauthenticity.

And as of 2024, with Lamar dropping “Not Like Us,” some interpret it as another jab at Drake, further solidifying their competitive dynamic. In the midst of all of this, Lux’s homerun stands out and his choice of song grabs some limelight.

Whether Lux intended a playful diss or simply enjoyed the empowering vibe of “Not Like Us” remains to be seen. However, as far as the game is concerned, one thing’s for sure: Lux stepped up to the plate with confidence, and the result was a two-run homer that soared effortlessly to right field. “Lux has been consistently getting better, and now hits a two-run, no-doubt home run to right field,” Dodgers Nation reported, underscoring Lux’s return to form after injury.

With a powerful swing and a new anthem of defiance, Gavin Lux is looking more and more like the pre-injury prospect that impressed everyone. And while the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake debate rages on, Lux gears up to make some noise of his own in the 2024 season, both on the field and, perhaps, in the world of hip-hop.
