When have challenges not been fun? The essence of being challenged in the thick of the ALCS is further incomparable. But two players have gotten into a rather lighthearted tiff where one questions the other’s fans’ ability to roar. Former teammates turned competitive contenders in Tuesday’s NLCS are witnessing the night unfold.

A little ahead of Game 2, the Arizona Diamondbacks ace pitcher displayed some doubt about the famous Philadelphia Phillies supporters. Phillie Phanatics who have a history of not being subtle with their cheers will show who they are tonight. Such is the confidence of Trea Turner, the Phillies shortstop.

Trea Turner and Merrill Kelly had represented the US in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year. They put up a great show against team Venezuela in March down in Miami. And with that, witnessed a crowd of 35,000 fans cheered like never before. Keeping that instance at Loan Depot Park in Miami as the benchmark the 35-year-old Diamondback said, “I haven’t obviously heard this place on the field, but I’d be very surprised if it trumped that [WBC] Venezuela game down in Miami”. Upon knowing this, the 30-year-old Phillie took on the challenge and gave a fitting response.

As reported by USA Today journalist Bob Nightingale, T2 got back, saying, “We’ll see what he says after tonight’s game”. Well, Turner has reason to hone that confidence. The Phillies crowd has a reputation for going wild with passion at The Bank every time there is a home game, especially in the season of 2023.

Having loud crowds, according to Kelly, is “fun”. This statement held true when Trea Turner homered in his first at-bat against Merrill Kelly propelling the Phillies into a solid 1-0 lead. Beginning with his grand slam that was followed by roars of the Phillies supporters, he added truth to his earlier statement about loud cheers. It seems to have been effective.
