New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is as talented as they come. Having played for the Houston Astros before joining the Bronx Bombers, the 32-year-old has owned several records to his name. Cole is the franchise record holder for 324 and 257 strikeouts in a single season for the Astros and Yankees, respectively. But no matter one’s talent, the limelight always brings the risk of both love and hate.

After being involved in the 2021 pitch doctoring controversy, some Yankees fans lost respect for Cole. Reminiscent of another Yankee legend, Alex Rodriguez, who was involved in PED usage and the Biogenesis scandal. The pitcher may be a favorite with some but may be the least favorite for others. But looking at a recent tweet supporting the Yank, the tide may be turning in his favor.

A Yankees enthusiast posted a video of Cole greeting kids that were Yankees fans, signing their hats, and posing for pictures. While it’s no outlandish behavior for a celebrity, it still goes a long way in establishing a famous personality’s worth. Everyone is entitled to their own privacy and stars no doubt tire of the constant fan exposure. But it’s still heartwarming to see people like Cole greeting fans in such a way.

Despite the nice comments, it wasn’t surprising to see people putting him on blast, either.

Bronx fans do not tolerate subpar performances and expect their players to keep up with their reputation. And Gerrit Cole felt the heat firsthand when his pitching suffered a blow in the 2021 season.

In a match against the Mets, Cole exited the stadium to actual booing from fans because he only lasted 3.1 innings. People were especially disappointed because the pitcher set a franchise record with his nine-year, $324 million contract. Every pro baseballer goes through highs and lows, but fans were rightly enraged at the poor performance of a star player.
