Alex recently sat down for an episode of the Walker Webcast, where, among other things, he spoke about Buffett’s impact on him from the moment he insured the then-biggest contract in baseball’s history. Talking about his mentor, Alex said, “Warren has been a great friend and mentor to me for over 20 years, and Warren just keeps things simple.”

Rodriguez continued, “Number one, he says, be a gentleman, always be a gentleman, character’s most important, he goes, buy great businesses at a fair price, not a fair business at a great price, and then he just says invest like if you want to own this for years and years and years to come. I mean, it really keeps it pretty simple.”

Undeniably, Warren’s guidance played a significant role in A-Rod’s journey to success. It paved the way for him to excel as a renowned baseball player, businessman, and philanthropist. He certainly owes a lot to Buffet who he met through a random circumstance

When Alex learned that Buffett had insured his 10-year contract with the Rangers, an idea started brewing in his mind.

Hence, without wasting any time, the former Yankee cold-called Buffett’s office, asking to set up a call with him. Although they were in business together, A-Rod still wasn’t sure if he would get what he had asked for.

Fortunately for him, the call ended up in his favor. Buffett’s office invited him to “come up and spend the day with [Buffett] in Omaha.” It was a dream come true for Alex. He graciously accepted, and the rest is history!
