Standing at second base, Jeremy Pena turned to face Houston’s dugout, flexed his arms in a strongman position, and briefly rotated his hips. He followed it by making a heart with his hands. The action was not an impromptu decision, Pena clarified on Monday. He narrated the funny backstory of when he met with some kids at Minute Maid Park a while back.

Pena said, “One of them was like, ‘Hey man, when you hit a double, you’ve got to do a dance for me.’ I was like, ‘No way, bro.’ And by the end of the batting practice, they convinced me to do it. I hit one in Arizona, and I was going to do it then. But I was like, nah, I don’t want to do it. But this time, I brought it out. So shoutout to those kids. I was just fulfilling a promise”. It means a lot to kids when a star like Pena himself fulfills a promise. These kids will remember the moment dedicated to them forever.

Though the Houston Astros lost to the Minnesota Twins 6-2, his gesture brought the Astros into the spotlight. He hit the top of the left-field wall with a Pablo López curveball to start the fifth inning, followed by his dance number. There’s more that proves that the 2022 Gold Glove award winner is a man of value.

It is noteworthy that as someone who constantly involves in philanthropic actions and community contributions, Pena was nominated for a coveted award.
