The LA Angels seem to be on a roll. With their hitting finally clicking into place with both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani delivering performances, all that remains is their mound rotation. And with the emergence of youngster Reid Detmers on their roster, their pitching seems in safe hands too. Stars and icons across the league stood up to take notice of the achievement as the young buck marked his emergence. Even former New York Yankees shortstop Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez was not to be left too far behind.

Rodriguez, although retired from the sport, has kept a close eye since 2016. Even starring in his own show on ESPN on Sundays with Michael Kay, A-Rod is still very much in touch with the game we love. And when Detmers managed a no-hitter on his debut, A-Rod rushed to acknowledge the achievement by the young pitcher. The former World Series Champion gave the young pitcher some well-deserved recognition for pitching the first no-hitter of the 2022 season.
Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez congratulates Reid Detmers on his stunning achievement
Reid Detmers became the first pitcher in 2022 to pitch an individual no-hitter, and Rodriguez was here for it. The 22-year-old pitcher took the mound in the second game of the series after an 11-3 trouncing the Rays in the series opener with high expectations.
With the Angels on a tear in the AL West, his performance sealed a 12-0 victory for his team. They also secured another series to win to start the season. A-Rod took to Twitter to congratulate the young starter. Wrote Rodriguez, “Congrats to LA Angels’ rookie Reid Detmers on the no-hitter! Just 22 years old and making history!”

A bit of a media mogul, Rodriguez even posted to his personal Instagram story with the same caption.
Detmers’ no-hitter – How much of an achievement is it?
Detmers may have entered the Anaheim with an assuming 5.32 ERA before yesterday’s game, but he left a hero. With his name firmly in the record books as the youngest LA Angel to throw an individual no-hitter at 22, he was no doubt overjoyed.

Said Detmers, “It is something I have always dreamed of. I can’t even process it right now.”
Detmers had close to the perfect game. He pitched with no inclusion for 5 innings before issuing a walk at the start of the 6th. Detmers threw 108 pitches and recorded two strikeouts and one walk across his time on the mound. And while the achievement stands out even by itself, it becomes the first individual no-hitter by an Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver in May 2012.
