The 2023 baseball season is almost here and all MLB teams are making the final adjustments before Opening Day kicks off. World Baseball Classic is also nearing an end and while it has been a wild ride, most fans are excited to get back to the regular season. The coming months will prove the advantages or disadvantages of whatever trades were made in the last offseason. The ultimate goal is the World Series, and one team that has faced a rather long drought is the New York Yankees.

From new deals to re-signings, Brian Cashman is stacking up good players. A few months ago, one such player was supposed to be Jurickson Profar. The utility player opted out of the last year of a three-year deal with the Padres after 2022. And while the Bronx Bombers could have made use of him on the team, Profar is now reportedly with the Colorado Rockies. And fans are conflicted.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported, “Jurickson Profar goes to Rockies. $8.75M total package ($7.75M guarantee). Makeable incentives: 400 plate appearances needed”. The Colorado team is being careful to not let the threat of a Brendan Rodgers injury hold them back. The infielder could miss the season because of a shoulder injury and the team isn’t taking any chances.

Even so, fans are disappointed that Profar is signing with a subpar team so late in the offseason.

While Yankees fans came out of the woodwork with contradictory opinions. One wanted them to sign the Curacaoan player.

While one thinks the team dodged a bullet.

Some are not big fans of Profar’s talent and think the amount is too high.

But some still showed their appreciation for the player.

All that remains to be seen is how the 30-year-old performs now.

Profar may end up benefitting the Colorado Rockies in 2023

The Rockies finished last in their division in the 2022 season. It was one of the many reasons fans questioned his move to sign with the team, even with the amount of money involved. Last season, Profar batted .243 with 58 RBIs and 15 home runs with the Padres. And these are not bad numbers.

The Curacaoan star also has experience playing for all four infield positions and could ultimately prove an asset for the Rockies. Not only that, but Profar also gave a good performance for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic batting at .231 (3-for-13) with a solo homer. Now only time will tell if this was a good decision for both the player and the team.
