In the off-season limelight taken by the Japanese players, Korean Jung Hoo Lee came with a breeze, attracting interest from baseball fans for being the ‘grandson of the wind.’ Notably, the 25-year-old signed a $113 million deal with the San Francisco Giants after being chased by multiple teams. He later gave the reason for this while showing his love for the Giants energizing the fans, who awaited a positive change. However, is their joy going to be short-lived?

Baseball is a physical sport, and injuries do trouble all athletes during their careers. Though it’s part of the journey, repetition creates a bigger problem, as seen during the last season. Remember Shohei Ohtani? As reported, Lee also suffered an injury last season and is yet to test his full fitness, this brings a question: Did the Giants make the correct decision by signing him? What does his injury timeline tell about it?

It was a good season for the SF Giants star in the KBO for the Kiwoom Heroes until the injury struck him. The outfielder was sidelined for three months starting July 2023 and even had surgery, that completely ended his KBO campaign. Given it all happened before his MLB posting, everyone expected it to impact his free agency. But this is not the case, all thanks to his amazing contribution over the past seasons.

Lee averaged 0.318 while contributing, with six HRs and 48 RBIs in 86 games. But these were below his 2022 stats, where he averaged 0.349 with 23 HRs and 113 RBIs in 142 games to win an MVP award.

However, this could be attributed to the fitness, which resulted in an ankle fracture. Now fully recovered, Lee looks positive about the future and has shown the same spirit with the “Let’s Go Giants” chant. But given that the challenge in the Major League is different, what can fans expect from the talented outfielder?

The pressure is always there whenever a newcomer joins the MLB. It increases when someone comes up with a tag that needs to be justified. The same is true with Jung Hoo Lee. According to a report from sportsinfosolutions.com, Lee is under a transition period and will need adjustments to fit into the system.

However, his patience while batting is a big positive and should help in facing high velocity and better pitching. The report adds, “While he might never hit for much power, if he’s able to lift the ball a little bit more he can still pull the ball for home runs but might have modest homer totals overall.”

This makes sense, and if Lee can match his best 23 HRs record, it will be a hit in his first MLB season. Coupled with his defensive outreach, the 25-year-old can make the left field his own. But all will depend upon how the spring training goes for him. Will Lee adjust to the need and do well in the league? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
