Per a Q and A with The Athletic, the 25-year-old shared his emotions about his first team. His words were, “Yeah, 100 percent. I never wanted to leave Washington. It was a great team. I knew everybody there, from the bottom all the way to the top. I was really comfortable and it felt like home for me. I was happy. I had a house in Washington. I was really comfortable up there.

On one hand, acknowledging the Nationals’ decision to trade him, the Dominican emphasized his appreciation and respect for their transparency. He shared that as per the decisions made, it was the right thing to do for the team. And fortunately or unfortunately, he landed in San Diego befriending the harsh reality of professional sports and giving away his attachments.

Prior to Soto’s recent comments, New York appeared to be the frontrunner to acquire him for 2025. Family and Familiarity: A Compelling Factor?

Analysts lay weightage to the idea that Soto would want to be closer to his family which in turn will influence his decision. This proximity would play a part considering his close relationship with his family, more so with his mother, who used to bring him food during his time in Washington.
