Juan Soto might be headed to another borough of New York this season—the New York Mets! While the Dominican had a great time with the New York Yankees, it remains to see if he will stay with the team. Mostly after Soto famously, right after the brutal World Series loss, talked to the media, saying he is open to listening to every team. The apparent price on his contract is about $600 million; if sources are to believe, it could even go to non-deferred $700 million. Can the Yankees afford this?

The New York Mets, have one of the richest individual owners: Steve Cohen. Plus, given that one of Soto’s biggest criteria was to choose a winning team that pays well, the Mets do sit right. They had an excellent season going 89-73, and Soto could just be the missing link to take them to the end. Now Soto has met with many of the teams in California along with his agent. Even the Mets did meet up with him and according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, it went extremely well!

Jon Heyman reported that the star of the off-season had a meeting with New York Mets owner Steve Cohen. He also reported that Mets baseball president David Stearns and manager Carlos Mendoza joined in. And it seems they all seemed to make a positive impression on Juan Soto. The meeting took place in an undisclosed location near Newport Beach, Calif. While most of the information is undisclosed, some bits and bobs are coming around.

Heyman reported that Word is the Mets presentation was a “big production” and “very detailed.” This is great news for the Mets fans, and as they have the richest owner, clenching the 26-year-old star might not be a far-off dream. But Soto even had a meeting with the Boston Red Sox, and even that meeting went well even after the fact that it was three hours long.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Juan Soto's move to the Mets finally tip the balance of power in New York baseball?

Have an interesting take?

Now, have you sat through a three-hour meeting? Well, that raises concerns for the Mets and the Yankees who are actively pursuing Juan Soto. Plus, the Red Sox sold Soto the history of the team celebrating Dominicans. However, even the Mets have a lot going on for them!

Are Mets the best fit for Juan Soto?

The New York Mets have a lot going on for them. Firstly, Soto needs a winning team, and their 2024 season was nothing short of exceptional in its own right. They made an NLCS run even though they had financial issues after paying a hefty amount to Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. The Mets had an average lineup, and will all that too; they defined expectations. But now they want to reach the end, and hence there are some big changes on the horizon. Secondly, money isn’t an issue with Steve Cohen on board. Plus, thirdly, Scott Boras and Steve Cohen are tight, and this could play a role in the final decision.

Also, let’s talk about Pete Alonso. The star of the New York Mets and the once-stellar slugger is a free agent. However, he doesn’t have that spark, given he has been inconsistent. This leaves his future with the New York Mets a little murky. Meanwhile, Soto is that spark that the Mets are exactly looking for. If Soto decides to do the orange and blue, then he sure will be the new face of the franchise.

Yankees, meanwhile, owe their run in the World Series to Soto. Because Soto’s heroics carried the Bronx Bombers forward, when the face of the franchise, Aaron Judge, fell into a bad slump. So, they need him. Right now, everyone seems to be in the race, but it feels like there’s going to be a war between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees.
