For a second it was difficult to hear what the announcers said. Fans in Yankee Stadium drowned out all the loudspeakers with their cheers. After a long wait, they were about to see the New York Yankees back in action. And they were finally seeing Juan Soto wearing the pinstripes. The crowd’s pitch reached peak frequency as the number 22 stepped up on the plate. However, unlike that memorable entry, Soto’s debut in the Yankee Stadium was a rather anti-climactic affair

The Dominican star failed to register a single hit in his 4 at-bats. While that was already a “tough” situation, things took a bad turn in the eighth inning. Soto was visibly furious after a 2-0 pitch that was out of the zone was called a strike. Later the superstar showed his frustration by spiking his bat and helmet down on the dirt. Now, Soto has commented on that reaction and shared how frustrating bad calls are.

“It is tough,” Soto said to SNY. “It’s tough to see those calls, you know? Tough moments, and it depends where you are in the at-bat, but definitely it’s really hard on me. It’s been a little bit tough now (with the pitch clock) because we don’t have too much time to keep thinking. (You have to) get yourself going.” The Dominican Star looked visibly frustrated but said that one can’t keep thinking about it. They need to “Keep grinding, keep going through the at-bat.”

However, it seems Soto’s greatest strength might also be an issue for his frustration. The superstar’s eye is by far one of the best in the league. That’s part of the reason why he gets so many walks. So could it be that he momentarily loses focus when he sees a bad call? While that could be a possibility, the superstar is undoubtedly upset with a timid home debut with the Yankees.

However, while Juan Soto’s home debut proved to be a stinker, he did have some memorable moments with the fans. Once again proving that he might be loving his life in the Yankees.

The moment Soto’s name was announced the entire Yankee Stadium erupted. However, that was just the beginning of a fun time. Soto entered with the iconic Jay Z and Alicia Keys song “Empire State of Mind” and that immediately went viral on social media. Later, Soto answered his first roll call by bowing to the crowd. All of these actions have endeared Soto to the fanbase.

However, it cannot be denied that Soto would’ve loved to give the Yankee Nation a memorable debut. But then again, it’s not like he won’t have more opportunities. The next game is today and with the form that Soto is in currently, there could be some fireworks at display in the Yankee Stadium. Until then, one wonders for how long this issue of wrong calls will persist in the league.
