Will the Yankees' legacy crumble if they lose Juan Soto to the Mets' deep pockets?

The New York Yankees may have lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. But off the field, the battle is far from over as they are trying to re-sign their star outfielder, Juan Soto. The Dominican is the season’s gem and is on the radar of at least seven other teams in the MLB, ranging from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Toronto Blue Jays. However, there is one team that the Yankees need to be most worried about: the New York Mets!

As a Scott Boras client, Juan Soto is said to be looking at teams that shell out the most. And rightfully so—Soto is just 26 years old and already at the pinnacle of his career. He still has prime years of playing left, and teams would like to capitalize on that. As such, the current value of his contract stands almost at $600 million with hopes of even a better deal. And well, for the Yankees’, this is not great news, given that Steve Cohen, the Mets owner, is out for blood! Recently, MLB analyst Deesha Thosar mentioned that Hal Steinbrenner may be under pressure owing to the entire situation.

Earlier this year, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner mentioned that the team’s payroll of $300 million was unsustainable. And now, even though he doesn’t want to, he is stuck in this bidding war for Soto. Most feel that for the Yankees it’s either Soto or ‘bust’ the coming season. Given that the team, which hadn’t even gone to the WS since 2009, made it there with Soto’s debut outing with the team. But Steve Cohen is making it tough for them!

“I think Hal is feeling the pressure, and I think the Yankees need it more,” said MLB analyst Deesha Thosar, highlighting the franchise’s need to end the championship drought they have been on since 2009! According to Thosar, Steve Cohen has been flexing his finances and might already lock down some big names like Francisco Lindor and Justin Verlander, among others. Not to mention we have heard that Cohen is ready to pay $50 million more than what others are offering. As such, Steinbrenner taking the pressure seems legit!

The Yankees’ owner, who was never really outspoken, appears to take a more hands-on approach for the free-agent outfielder. Steinbrenner’s recent comments on ‘having ears’ and meeting with Soto personally in California all suggest that he may be feeling the heat.

Juan Soto rumors heat up as MLB drops a curious hint

Juan Soto had an incredible season as he featured in 157 games and slashed 288/.419/569 with a career-high of 41 home runs and 109 RBIs. So, MLB celebrated his stellar performance this year by posting about it on their Instagram account. But the color scheme of the picture MLB posted got everyone talking. Of all the options, they picked the picture theme of blue and orange. Given that the New York Mets are serious contenders for Soto, this almost seems like a gentle hint. And it wouldn’t be all that surprising!

Juan Soto has mentioned that he wants to join a winning team. Well, if that’s the case, then one shouldn’t look no further than the Mets lineup with Francisco Lindor and the rest. It’s a dream team to clinch the World Series. Plus, Soto loves New York already and was seen exploring the city with his teammates. Additionally, he talked about how comfortable he feels there. And as far as money goes, Cohen is ready to spend like no one else. Lastly, the Mets will showcase Soto as their main star, the face of the franchise, which wasn’t the case with the Yankees.

However, it’s too quick to say anything; after all, the off-season is unpredictable. Where do you think Soto will end up? Let us know in the comment section below!
