The Boston Red Sox were to be aggressive this off-season, according to the insiders, and they are. The team is after Juan Soto, except they are among the six other teams who are also on the run. The odds are not in their favor literally, given that teams with bigger pockets are in too. Plus, they had a three-hour meeting with Soto yet didn’t discuss money matters. While Soto is the talent of the season, as a Scott Boras client, he will look for the best-paying team.
However, Juan Soto did remain in that 3-hour meeting, and apparently, it was quite fruitful. But that doesn’t mean that the team would ignore that looming $600 million price that hangs above Soto. However, while the odds are not in their favor totally, they do have a secret weapon, or who has been helping them—David Ortiz. Yes, the same guy who helped them clinch three world titles!

Ortiz has been eyeing Juan Soto for the Boston Red Sox for almost the entire season. Until recently, he was saying that if there is a next Ortiz; he sees Soto as the one filling his spot at the Red Sox. And when David Ortiz, a legend who even Soto looks up to, talks, everyone listens. Ortiz, who retired in 2016, is still very active in the baseball scene. Now, he has mentioned that for the Red Sox to give another go at the championship, they need an outfielder like Juan Soto. Plus, given that Ortiz and Soto are both Dominicans and the team is also focusing on that as the most pull factor here, it might just work.
Ortiz recently mentioned in an interview with EL VOCERO (translated from Spanish), “I see him on the Red Sox. I’m telling you the truth. I see him there unless something different happens because right now everyone wants him, but even I am doing my due diligence because I would like to have that horse on my team.” The interview was translated, which highlighted that Soto is a person everyone wants—he is a full package. So, the team signing him is guaranteed to get a couple of championships.
Now, everyone wants Juan Soto, but it never hurts getting a legend to support a player going into a team. And it seems like that’s what Ortiz is doing presently—in that interview, he also mentioned how Soto will have Alex Cora, the best manager, if he joins the team. Well, it might seem like another recruiting tactic, but isn’t the off-season all about these tactical games?
Juan Soto might fit better in Boston

Can David Ortiz's legendary influence bring Juan Soto to the Red Sox despite the $600 million hurdle?

With Juan Soto’s future left much to speculation, fresh news is coming in every day about which teams are the frontrunners, be it the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, or the New York Mets. However, while the Yankees are often seen as the frontrunners for who will have the best chance, it seems like the Red Sox could have more to offer! Fenway Park and the rich history of baseball players who share the Dominican history are what make the Boston Red Sox’s appeal different from the other teams. While money is a champion for others, Boston can offer both.

Moreover, Juan Soto mentioned earlier that his inspiration was some of the top Dominican players, mostly like Ortiz, being in the Boston Red Sox. Not to mention, during the meeting the Red Sox had with Soto, they didn’t talk about money but simply their history. Plus, baseball columnist Jon Heyman recently mentioned that Soto might enjoy a quieter environment like Fenway. “Fenway fits him even better than Yankee Stadium, as they told him. While he enjoyed the Bleacher Creature Roll Call, some think he prefers things somewhat quieter,” wrote Heyman.
While Boston might be quieter, Juan Soto would be the face of the franchise and possibly have David Ortiz as a mentor—it’s the kind of environment he wouldn’t find with other teams. What do you think about Soto joining the Red Sox? Let us know in the comments.
