The 2023 offseason will surely turn some tables. While for some players, things are very predictable, some news regarding others would shock the fans. The San Diego Padres’ superstar is probably on the latter list. Though his deal with the Padres hasn’t ended, and it’s not sure whether they will trade the star, some potential teams have already set their aim to get him. Interestingly, amid the Yankees’ rumored interest in the player, another NY-based team has emerged with full “aptitude and desire”.
The anti-climatic season ending of the New York Yankees has changed a lot of things for them. As a result, players may give their decision a second thought before joining The Yankees. Amidst this, another potent rival NY Mets may approach the Jeter-backed star, and they are being considered a “scary possibility.”

Both New York teams are now rumored to be approaching the Dominican star Juan Soto. While the Yankees were on the list for a long time, the Mets are a new addition. Although the contender teams have already ended their playoff hopes, The San Diego Padres are not in a favorable situation. They are almost out of the playoff journey, but their last win against the San Francisco Giants has still kept their hopes up. Though Soto has performed mostly well throughout the season, the team may cut down on their payroll with Soto’s trade. Until now, there’s no official news about the trade. But if that happens, MLB insider Jeff Passan has confirmed, The “Mets are a team to watch.”
ESPN’s @JeffPassan believes the Mets are a team to watch if the Padres decide to trade Juan Soto. Passan calls the Mets a “scary possibility” due to their bevy of prospects and Steve Cohen’s presumed willingness to hand out a massive deal to the 24-year-old star.

However, Passan again highlighted that the Mets are emerging as a potent challenge to the Yankees, “The Mets are a scary possibility for Juan Soto & I think the Mets probably are in a better position to offer prospects to go out & get him because I think Mets ownership has shown the aptitude & desire to sign guys like Juan Soto.?
Soto is likely to be a good inclusion in the Mets if they really want to have him. Though his performance in the season was not exceptional, it’s still good. In 561 at-bats, the Dominican star has 95 runs with 108 RBIs. He has a .275 average and .409 OBS. However, coming to his trade possibilities, The Mets and Yankees won’t be the only probable contender.
